Author, CrossFit trainer
With best-selling books, frequent TV appearances, more than 300,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel and some 350,000 followers on Instagram, Kelly Starrett has elevated the notion of mobility far beyond simple stretching and into the realm of, well, a movement.
Starrett had the great timing to be in on the ground floor of CrossFit, using his position at one of the first CF gyms in the country to eventually reach an audience wondering why their muscles, while stronger than ever, were supported by joints and tendons that were becoming increasingly stiff and immobile. He founded and operates the influential website MobilityWod.Com with his wife Juliet Starrett. With the publication of 2015’s best-selling Becoming a Supple Leopard: The Ultimate Guide to Resolving Pain, Preventing Injury and Optimizing Athletic Performance, he became a full-on media sensation, thanks in part to an appearance on 60 Minutes. A five-star rating powered by almost 1,500 Amazon reviewers doesn’t hurt, either.
Starrett’s influence spreads far beyond the world of sports and fitness. His latest book, Deskbound: Standing up to a Sitting World, is a manifesto urging the world’s office workers to cast off their chains and stand up and move around during the day, all in the name of avoiding a host of diseases and ills associated with a sedentary lifestyle.
